Puri is not only the heart of Odisha’s spiritual heritage but is also the epicentre of Hinduism in eastern India. In addition to the iconic Jagannatha temple, Puri is also known for other attractions such as the Annapurna Theatre, the sand art at the beach and the Jegaghar, a centre for ancient martial arts. Literature too thrived in Puri from the Panchasakha period (15th century C.E). The unique Odissi dance and music, both of which were born in the temples of Puri, are world renowned today and considered as vital classical performing art forms of India. That vibrant literary and cultural ethos of yore continues to this day in Puri. It is therefore no surprise that Puri is one of the heritage cities chosen by the Government of India under its HRIDAY initiative.
Puri Literature Festival (PLF) endeavors to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Puri, its spiritualism, dialects, art, dance, music and humanism. We look forward to your participation to preserve and celebrate the richness of Puri’s cultural heritage through PLF.
